A’s Recall RHP Tyler Ferguson and INF Brett Harris from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Tyler Ferguson and infielder Brett Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb and infielder Aledmys Díaz for assignment, the club announced today.

Ferguson joins the A’s for the third time this year after going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and .710 opponents OPS in nine relief appearances during his first two stints from May 7-20 and May 25-30. He held the opposition to a .206 batting average but walked seven in 10.0 innings for a .357 on-base percentage. The 30-year-old right-hander posted a 4.38 ERA in 11 games with the Aviators following his May 31 option and is 2-2 with five saves, a 3.49 ERA and .646 opponents OPS in 26 games overall at Triple-A.

Harris joins Oakland for the second time this year after batting .116 with three home runs and five RBI in 17 games in his Major League debut from May 3-23. He was optioned to Las Vegas on May 24 and went 4-for-15 (.267) in four games before going on the seven-day injured list June 4 with a left foot contusion. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI on a one-game rehab assignment with the ACL A's, was reinstated on June 22 and went 10-for-23 (.435) with two home runs and five RBI over his final six games with the Aviators. Harris is batting .313 with five home runs, 27 RBI and a .929 OPS in 37 games overall with Las Vegas.

Newcomb began the season on the 60-day injured list with left knee inflammation and was reinstated on June 4. He was 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA and .866 opponents OPS in seven relief appearances with the A’s and walked eight batters in 10.0 innings.

Díaz also started the year on the 60-day IL with a right calf strain and was reinstated on May 28. He went 3-for-29 (.103) with a RBI and a walk in 12 games with the A’s. The 33-year-old right-handed hitter was signed by Oakland to a two-year contract on Dec. 13, 2022 and hit .218 with four home runs, 25 RBI and a .585 OPS in 121 games in two seasons with the A’s.
