A’s recall RHP Boyle from Las Vegas; designate RHP Muller for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated right-handed pitcher Kyle Muller for assignment, the club announced today.

Boyle was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was 2-5 with a 7.16 ERA and .765 opponents OPS in seven starts when he was placed on the 15-day injured list May 6 with a lower back strain. He was reinstated from the IL and optioned to Las Vegas on June 5. The 24-year-old right-hander is 1-3 with a 5.63 ERA and .641 opponents OPS in 12 games, including 11 starts, with the Aviators. Boyle is 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA and .477 opponents OPS over his last five games dating back to July 11 after going 0-3 with an 11.15 ERA and .827 opponents OPS over his first seven starts at Triple-A.

Muller is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA and .749 opponents OPS in 18 appearances, all in relief. He logged two or more innings in 13 of his 18 games and had three outings of four or more innings. The 26-year-old right-hander spent six weeks on the injured list with left shoulder tendinitis. Muller was acquired from Atlanta in a three-team, nine-player trade on Dec. 12, 2022, and went 1-6 with a 6.39 ERA in 39 games, including 13 starts, in two seasons with Oakland.
