OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Mason Miller on the 15-day injured list retroactive to July 23 with a broken left hand and reinstated right-handed pitcher Ross Stripling from the injured list, the club announced today.

Miller is 1-1 with 15 saves, a 2.21 ERA and .463 opponents OPS in 34 relief appearances. His 15 saves are the most in the majors this year and third most in Oakland history by a rookie. The 25-year-old right-hander has held the opposition to a .146 batting average and has struck out 70 batters in 40.2 innings. Miller is tied for second in the majors among relievers in strikeouts and his 306 pitches of 100 miles per hour or more are the most among all pitchers. The A’s lone All-Star, Miller was the winning pitcher for the American League as he struck out two in a scoreless fifth inning in the All-Star Game.

Stripling was 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA in 11 starts when he was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained right elbow. He had a .325 opponents batting average but had issued just 12 walks in 55.2 innings, an average of 1.94 per nine innings. The 34-year-old right-hander went 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA and .892 opponents OPS on a three-start rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton and Triple-A Las Vegas.
