A's place DH Rooker on Paternity List; recall INF Alvarez from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed designated hitter Brent Rooker on the paternity list today and recalled infielder Armando Alvarez from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also announced that left-handed pitcher Kyle Muller has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Las Vegas.

Rooker is batting .293 with 29 home runs, 83 RBI and a .950 OPS in 105 games. He ranks seventh in the majors in slugging (.583), eighth in OPS, tied for eighth in home runs and ninth in RBI.

Alvarez joins the A’s for the third time this year and is 7-for-26 (.269) with two walks and two RBI in eight games. He was most recently with the club from Aug. 7-9 when Seth Brown was on the paternity list and went 1-for-3 with a RBI against the White Sox on Aug. 7. The 30-year-old right-handed hitter is batting .306 with 16 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, 47 RBI and a .982 OPS in 62 games with Las Vegas.

Muller was 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA and .749 opponents OPS in 18 appearances, all in relief, with the A’s. He logged two or more innings in 13 of his 18 games and had three outings of four or more innings. The 26-year-old left-hander spent six weeks on the injured list with left shoulder tendinitis.
