With $250K up for grabs, here's who the fans picked
Baseball fans have spoken, and they are telling us that the Astros are going to win it all.
As part of the Postseason Bracket Challenge, a total of 254,932 people picked Houston to win the World Series, the most of any of the 10 postseason teams. This year's grand prize for winning the contest is $250,000, which is the largest total in the 17-year history of the contest, It’s also the same as the prize that the winner of the Home Run Derby Bracket Challenge got this summer.
The Dodgers were the second-most common pick for the World Series champion. Then the Yankees, followed by the Braves, Cardinals, Twins, Nationals, A's, Brewers -- now eliminated -- and Rays.
And here's what the most common bracket looked like:
Wild Card winners: Nationals, A's
Division Series: Yankees, Astros, Braves, Dodgers
Championship Series: Astros, Dodgers
World Series: Astros over Dodgers
In addition to filling out the bracket, fans were also asked to select the World Series MVP and the number of games the World Series will last.
Alex Bregman was the top pick for World Series MVP, with 88,493 Bracket Challenge participants choosing the Astros’ third baseman. Dodgers All-Star Cody Bellinger got the second-most World Series MVP picks, followed by Astros ace Justin Verlander, Yankees duo Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu, and a third Astro, Jose Altuve.
The most common prediction for the length of the World Series was six games.
