Posada to serve as guest instructor this spring
TAMPA, Fla. -- Jorge Posada is listed among the guest instructors expected in Yankees camp this spring, but manager Joe Girardi said he doesn't know when to expect the five-time World Series winner.
"I'm not sure exactly when he's coming," Girardi said. "Our guest instructors kind of make their own schedules. A lot of guys usually like to wait until the games start."
Several of the Yanks' instructors have already arrived, including Goose Gossage, Ron Guidry and David Wells. Posada was at George M. Steinbrenner Field last month to coach in the team's Women's Fantasy Camp and spoiled the surprise of his invitation.
"I'll be bossing them around -- telling them to run and all that stuff," Posada said then. "I miss certain things about the game. You're always going to miss certain things. I, obviously, miss my teammates the most."
Girardi said that he has also recently spoken to Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, who is not expected in camp this year. The 87-year-old Berra has found traveling to be increasingly difficult.
"We're all disappointed that he's not here; he's a fixture here and we miss him," Girardi said. "I look forward to seeing him when we get back."
