Pirates recall Schugel, option Diaz

CHICAGO -- The Pirates recalled right-hander A.J. Schugel from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday ahead of the three-game series against the Cubs. In a corresponding move, the team optioned catcher to Indianapolis.
Schugel, who has yet to make an appearance in the Majors this season, pitched 52 innings for Pittsburgh last year, going 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA. Through 26 Triple-A relief outings in 2017, he's posted a 4.17 ERA, and batters have hit .268 against him.
 

Diaz last played Thursday against the Phillies, going 1-for-4 with a double in a 6-3 win. Among his various season highlights were a six-RBI game on June 2 against the Mets, as well as the first three-hit game of his career on June 10 against the Marlins.
