PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates announced on Thursday that catcher Tyler Heineman, right-handed pitchers Tyler Chatwood and Nathan Webb and left-handed pitchers Daniel Zamora, Rob Zastryzny and Angel Perdomo have been signed to Minor League contracts and been invited to Major League Spring Training.

Heineman, 31, played 52 games for the Pirates last season, as well as 10 with the Blue Jays. In total, Heineman hit .217/.276/.268 with a 56 OPS+. Behind the plate, Heineman had five defensive runs saved across 436 1/3 innings while ranking in the 72nd percentile of pop time to second base and the 61st percentile of framing. Heineman will come into Spring Training likely competing for the spot of backup catcher behind Austin Hedges, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Pirates last week.

Chatwood, 33, spent last season with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, posting a 2.59 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 21 walks in 24 1/3 innings. Across 10 Major League seasons, Chatwood owns a 4.45 ERA and 4.62 FIP, with 6.8 strikeouts and 4.7 walks per nine innings. Chatwood began his career as a starter, but will likely relieve for Pittsburgh.

Zamora, 29, was originally drafted by the Pirates in the 40th round of the 2015 MLB Draft before being traded to the Mets in January 2018. Zamora spent all of last season with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, posting a 3.86 ERA and 4.20 FIP across 63 innings. Zamora had a bit of success with the Mets in 2018, allowing three earned runs with 16 strikeouts across nine innings, but hasn’t been able to match that production in the Majors since.

Zastryzny, 30, spent most of last season with the Triple-A affiliates of the Angels and Mets, posting a 3.42 ERA with 68 strikeouts across 55 1/3 innings. Zastryzny has pitched in parts of four Major League seasons and owns a 4.66 ERA and 3.61 FIP in 38 2/3 career innings.

Perdomo, 28, spent nearly all of last season with the Rays’ Triple-A affiliate, where he posted a 2.12 ERA and 2.66 FIP with 48 strikeouts across 29 2/3 innings. Perdomo spent time with the Brewers in 2020 and '21, but has allowed 18 earned runs in 19 2/3 innings.

Webb, 25, spent most of last season with the Royals’ Double-A affiliate, spending a couple games with the Arizona Complex League Royals (Rookie-level affiliate) and Triple-A affiliate as well. Across 33 1/3 innings, Webb had a 9.99 ERA with 39 strikeouts and 27 walks.
