Podcast: Weighing the No. 1 pick odds and interviewing Brody Brecht

June 25th, 2024

Last night, the Tennessee Volunteers were crowned national champions, marking the completion of the last major landmark on the road to the Draft. On the latest Pipeline Podcast, Jim Callis, Jason Ratliff and Jonathan Mayo look back at the series, predict who will go No. 1 overall and tackle a number of other subjects.

The episode starts with the trio digging into who the Cleveland Guardians will select first overall in the Draft. They run back an exercise they did on May 23, predicting the odds of each candidate to go first overall. Callis and Mayo allot percentage points to Oregon State's Travis Bazzana (No. 1), Georgia's Charlie Condon (No. 2), Florida's Jac Caglianone (No. 3), West Virginia's JJ Wetherholt (No. 7) and the field.

Following the odds making, the crew dives into this year's crop of college arms, assigning each prospect to a tier. They then continue the pitching talk as No. 21 Draft prospect Brody Brecht joins the podcast. The Iowa right-hander discusses his mindset on the mound, choosing baseball over football, how he has responded to adversity in his career and more.
