Blanco ends 14-pitch AB with HR off his mug

PHILADELPHIA -- Before smashed a two-run home run off his own mugshot on the right-field scoreboard in the Phillies' 7-4 loss in Game 2 of a doubleheader Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, he had perhaps the Phillies' best plate appearance of the season.
He saw 14 pitches in the fourth inning against Marlins right-hander . He fouled off nine pitches, and he even lost his bat at one point.
"Wow," said Blanco, who hit a pinch-hit home run in Game 1 of the twin bill. "I think that's my best at-bat ever. I don't think I ever fouled off that many pitches. That's good, man. I really needed something like that. It was a pretty good day. I'll sleep well tonight."

Blanco, who is hitting .174 in 115 at-bats this season, started the at-bat down 0-2 before eventually working the count full. He fouled off seven consecutive pitches -- letting his bat fly out of his hands and above the first-base dugout on one of the swings -- before connecting on a 97-mph fastball for his third homer of the season. The ball left Blanco's bat at 103.2 mph, according to Statcast™, and traveled a projected 402 feet.
A Phillies batboy tried to bring Blanco a different bat after he lost the first one on the dugout, but Blanco requested his original bat be retrieved. He got it back.
"It was longer and lighter," Blanco explained.
