Phanatic, Asplundh and volunteers gear up for community tree planting
Call it a home run for trees! On Wednesday, the Phillie Phanatic, Phillies Ballgirls and Aspundh headed out to Southwest Philadelphia to help Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) volunteers unload and distribute 1,200 trees to tree tender groups, community organizations and neighborhood volunteers in preparation for the weekend’s massive city-wide tree planting.
As part of the event, 201 Phillies Home Runs for Trees, donated by Asplundh, were also distributed, with some tagged with the names of the Phillies’ top home run hitters this past season, including Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, Trea Turner, Brandon Marsh, Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto, Bryson Stott and Edmundo Sosa.
The Phillies Home Runs for Trees program is in partnership with PHS and supported by Asplundh, where for each home run hit by a Phillies player, a tree is planted in the Greater Philadelphia area. More than 2,200 trees have been planted since the program began.
