Skenes, Dunne bring showstopping stardom to MLB All-Star Red Carpet

ARLINGTON -- Livvy Dunne has walked on many red carpets in the past. On Tuesday, she joined on the MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show, and it was a carpet unlike any other she has walked on before.

“This is so cool,” she said. “It’s different from any other red carpet I’ve ever been on. This is so chaotic; I’m having a blast! I’ve never walked on a carpet with anybody, so I was like ‘Alright are we going to hold hands? What are we going to do?’ It just came to us naturally when we got out here.”

Dunne’s excitement and pride ahead of the Skenes’ historic start for the NL All-Star team could not be contained. She was one of the significant others standing proudly beside their All-Stars as they made their way down on the Red Carpet ahead of the Midsummer Classic on Tuesday.

The midday Texas heat did not stop fans from coming out and standing along the carpet to catch a glimpse of their favorite players outside of their baseball uniforms and with their families.

“It was cool to see them with their families kind of interacting and being dads and just normal human beings,” said MLB Moments contest winner Anthony Armando. “I have two kids, eight and six. And, you know, I would imagine if I was walking the red carpet that [they would] pull me or they probably make me try to walk faster, so they get out of the heat. But seeing them caring and being with their families taking photos and just put on fashion that they do.”

Armando was a fan selected from Capital One All-Star Village. He captured up to 5 specific badges that were placed around the event. As part of the prize package, he was given the opportunity to attend the Red Carpet in the VIP location.

Fans get to see the finished product, but there is a lot of work behind the scenes that the significant others do. All of the scheduling and coordinating is done to take some of that stress from the players in mind, making the red carpet a celebration of their support system as well.

“We take care of flights, getting the kids ready to go,” said Cara Smith, wife of Dodgers’ catcher Will Smith. “Just making it as easy as possible for him to focus on the events and games that they’re at.”

Like Cara Smith, Daniella Correa is no stranger to the red carpet. She has stood by Twins All-Star Carlos Correa in three All-Star appearances, walking in three carpets.

“It’s a lot different now getting ready for some events like this,” Daniella said. “We have children, so you have to make sure they have something to wear as well as you, but it’s a lot of fun, especially seeing the pictures afterward.”

The coordination of the families makes it easy for fans to spot the players’ support systems. The Smiths wore a coordinated brown and cream color palette. Torey Luvullo was surrounded by his family, everyone donning matching sneakers with the D-backs logo on the left shoe and “Snakes Alive” on the right. Angels southpaw Tyler Anderson matched with his son in blue, while his wife Taitym and their daughters wore floral dresses, standing out on the carpet.

Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper went full-cowboy, wearing a cream cowboy hat, cream-colored button-down, jeans, and a belt with a big buckle. The outfit was not complete without snakeskin boots and his carrying his daughters in a southern-inspired dress with his number and photo on the back.

The ability to experience the glitz and glamour is just another perk of becoming an All-Star, whether that’s as a player or their family.

"It was cool. It was hot but cool. Cool for my wife [Anna Claire], to get dressed up and experience it all,” said Orioles All-Star Jordan Westburg after the event. “Something I was taking in as I was going, just trying to remember to smile and have fun doing it. I don't know how many times I'm going to get to experience that, so it was cool."
