Goldy, Vlad Jr. take home Player of the Week honors
Paul Goldschmidt and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. have been two of baseball’s best hitters this June. Both, however, took their games to another level over the past week, and for their efforts, they were named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet on Tuesday.
This marks the fourth career Player of the Week Award for both first basemen, with Goldschmidt last earning it on July 27, 2019, and Guerrero last receiving it on June 26, 2021.
Goldschmidt hit safely in all seven games last week while slashing .467/.515/.967 with seven extra-base hits (three doubles and four homers) and 11 RBIs. All four of his homers came in a two-day span, as he notched what proved to be the game-winning blast in last Monday’s comeback win against the Pirates and then went deep three times in last Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Goldschmidt enters Tuesday leading the National League in batting average (.339), on-base percentage (.417) and OPS (1.031). He also has 16 homers and 58 RBIs, the third most in the Majors.
Guerrero continued his torrid June by batting .407/.500/.778 with three homers and seven RBIs across seven games. In the Blue Jays’ wins over the Orioles on Monday and Wednesday, the 23-year-old slugger went a combined 7-for-10 with two homers and five RBIs. He’s now up to eight homers this month after hitting nine total in April and May.
On the year, Guerrero is slashing .265/.357/.506 with 17 homers and 41 RBIs.
