Goldy hits 96th HR at Chase, sets ballpark mark
PHOENIX -- Paul Goldschmidt's two-run home run in the first inning not only gave the D-backs an early lead against the Angels in Wednesday night's 5-1 win, but it also gave him yet another franchise record.
It was the 96th career homer at Chase Field for Goldschmidt, which moved him past Luis Gonzalez for first place all-time. The ballpark opened in 1998.
With 29 homers this year, Goldschmidt is one shy of his fourth career 30-homer season.
Goldschmidt has a 14-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 27 straight games.
"I've played against him for many years," Angels catcher Rene Rivera said. "If you leave one in the middle, he is going to hit it out. He has the power to do it. All fields. [Angels starter Odrisamer Despaigne] left a cutter right in the middle of the plate, and he put a good swing on it."
