Padres unveil new uniform design and logos

Club also announces new program that will outfit more than 10,000 Little Leaguers with Padres jerseys

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today unveiled their updated uniforms and new logos at a special event for select season ticket holders at Petco Park. Padres President/Chief Operating Officer Tom Garfinkel was on hand along with several Padres players to make the announcement.

"We spent a lot of time listening to our fans about the uniforms over the past two years," said Garfinkel. "What we learned is that, while the current design isn't loved, there is also a strong feeling that this club has had so many radical changes over the years that we didn't need another one. With that in mind, our staff worked diligently, reviewing every detail to create a more traditional baseball design that San Diegans can be proud of. The new uniforms and logos focus on the unique elements of Padres history."

In addition, the Padres also announced today that approximately 10,000 youth baseball players from four local Little League districts will be wearing Padres jerseys for the upcoming season as part of the club's ongoing effort to support youth baseball. Four players from Chollas Lake Little League were on hand today as part of the announcement. As part of this program, the teams representing Little League districts throughout San Diego County will have their choice of selecting one style of uniform worn from throughout Padres history to wear during the 2012 youth baseball season. The club will sponsor teams in each district, supporting kids age 4-12.

"While there has been a lot of talk about our new uniforms, we are even more excited and proud to announce the next step in our support of youth baseball in San Diego," added Garfinkel. "This is a great chance for us to partner with local Little League districts, showcase our team's history and build upon the emotional connection between the team and the San Diego community."

Included in the uniform changes are updated home whites and road grays, along with a new blue alternate uniform featuring the Padres' "SD" on the chest. San Diego's military jerseys will still feature the digital camouflage pattern modeled after the U.S. Marines, but will have updated numbers and lettering on the back to remain consistent with the Padres' other uniforms.

In addition to the uniforms, the Padres also unveiled three new logos. The "SD" logo has been updated to a circular mark featuring the text "San Diego Padres Baseball Club" and will be used as the team's primary mark.

The Padres' new secondary logo features the Padres script under skyline imagery of Petco Park. The new secondary mark also includes the classic "SD" along with "Est. 1969" and will be featured in a patch on the sleeve of the club's blue and gray jerseys.

In addition, the Padres have modified the Swinging Friar logo by using the original classic Swinging Friar from the early days of Padres history, with updated colors to match the blue and white currently worn by the club. It will be featured in a patch on the sleeve of the Padres' white jerseys.

All four of the updated jerseys are currently available for sale at the Padres store and online at padres.com/shop. Please see the attached release for a look at each of the new uniforms and logos.
