Abrams, Hassell to train in big league camp
Padres reveal list of 33 non-roster invitees for Spring Training
SAN DIEGO -- The Padres unveiled their full list of non-roster invitations to Spring Training on Friday, and -- as has become the norm under general manager A.J. Preller -- it's loaded with top prospects.
That includes left-hander MacKenzie Gore, infielder CJ Abrams and outfielder Robert Hassell III, meaning big league camp will feature all four of San Diego's players ranked among MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects. Gore is ranked No. 6, Abrams No. 8 and Hassell No. 62, joining catcher Luis Campusano (No. 45). Campusano already is on the team's 40-man roster.
The Padres have a full 40-man and invited 33 non-roster players to big league camp, meaning they're slated to have a squad of 73 at the Peoria Sports Complex when the full group reports by Feb. 22.
Right-hander Justin Lange and outfielder Joshua Mears were also among the Padres' Spring Training invitees, meaning eight of the team's Top 10 prospects will be active participants in camp this spring.
