Now pitching: outfielder Carlos Gomez?
Veteran gets rocked for 3 runs in MLB mound debut
July 28th, 2018
BALTIMORE -- Carlos Gomez made his Major League pitching debut Friday night in the Rays' 15-5 loss to the Orioles. And the veteran outfielder's outing wasn't exactly flawless.
Gomez threw 21 pitches, of which just four were strikes, and he had two balks. He walked four batters and allowed three runs. Gomez's ERA after finishing his one-third of an inning: 81.00.
Pitching in a Major League game "is an experience every player wants to have," Gomez said. "When you do it, you respect pitchers more."
Relief help finally came in the form of catcher Jesus Sucre, who gave up a hit, which scored one of his inherited runners, while getting the final two outs of the inning.
