O's-White Sox rained out; twin bill Saturday
CHICAGO – Friday's game between the Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles has been postponed due to inclement weather.
“Inclement” actually would be a nice way of describing the conditions in Chicago, with the temperature hovering around 40 degrees and the windchill taking it below 40 for most of the day. Rain began around 5 p.m. CT, but the White Sox had hoped for a window to begin play with a first pitch around 8:45 p.m. That window closed at 8 p.m.
The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:10 p.m. CT, with the second game beginning approximately 30-45 minutes after the first. Both games will be seven-inning regulation games, and the White Sox and Orioles can add a 27th player for the twin bill. Parking lots will open at 11 a.m. and gates at 11:40 a.m.
Season-ticket holders will receive a credit to their account for game tickets and parking for Friday's game. Ticketmaster purchasers will receive a full refund for game tickets and parking through Ticketmaster.
Fans with tickets to Saturday’s original 1:10 p.m. start can attend both games and enter the ballpark at any point during either game with their ticket. Tickets for Friday's postponed game do not transfer to Saturday, and fans must purchase new tickets to attend the doubleheader.
Saturday’s “Tim Anderson bat flip” bobblehead giveaway will begin when gates open at 11:40 a.m. prior to the first game of the doubleheader. The bat flip bobblehead also was given away to fans attending Friday’s eventually cancelled contest, with the White Sox shortstop giving its likeness his strong approval.
Dallas Keuchel, who was scheduled to start Friday’s contest, will pitch in Game 1 Saturday. The same change goes for Matt Harvey for Baltimore. The nightcap features John Means and his 1.79 ERA for the Orioles against Lance Lynn and his 1.51 ERA for the White Sox.
Saturday’s schedule gives the White Sox two doubleheaders in three games, with the White Sox set to play two on Memorial Day at Progressive Field against the Indians. Carlos Rodón will pitch in one of those two games, but a second starter has not been announced by the White Sox. It will not be Michael Kopech, who is currently on the bereavement list and is dealing with a sore left hamstring suffered while pitching Wednesday.
Keuchel originally was scheduled to pitch Wednesday afternoon’s series finale against the Indians. But that start would leave him on short rest with Keuchel’s Friday outing pushed back one day, so the White Sox appear to need a starter for Monday and Wednesday. They are in the midst of playing 27 games in 27 days, from May 11 to June 6, with a current record of 10-6 during that stretch.
