Flip out! Oklahoma OF flies over fence to make play, then HRs
Sooners defeat Virginia Tech to advance to first College World Series since 2010
Oklahoma left fielder Kendall Pettis put on a show in Sunday’s Super Regional game against Virginia Tech, an 11-2 victory that sent the Sooners to their first College World Series appearance since 2010.
In the fourth inning, Pettis crashed into the bullpen wall to catch a foul ball, flipping over the fence as the crowd and his teammates roared.
A couple of innings later, Pettis hit a solo shot to left field, just a few yards away from his incredible catch a short time earlier.
And his unbelievable day didn’t stop there. During the sixth inning, Pettis took away a hit from Tanner Schobel with a diving grab in left-center field.
It was an all-around excellent day for the Sooners.
Pettis' spectacular grab wasn’t the first time this week a college outfielder flipped over the wall for an out. With two on and two out in the fifth inning during Game 1 of Texas and East Carolina’s Super Regional matchup on Friday, Longhorn right fielder Murphy Stehly careened into the bullpen to end the threat.
In a wild twist, Stehly also homered a half-inning later, his second of the game.
