Herrera stays hot with 3-run homer in first
June 18th, 2018
PHILADELPHIA -- After the first two Phillies hitters of Monday night's 6-5 win against the Cardinals reached base via a single and a walk, Odubel Herrera showed bunt. With a successful sacrifice, the cleanup spot would have two runners in scoring position and a chance to do some damage early.
Herrera bunted foul. He took a ball. Then he remained in his usual stance and clubbed a Miles Mikolas changeup over the right-field seats to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead before there was even an out.
The line-drive home run left Herrera's bat at 102.3 mph and traveled a projected 368 feet, according to Statcast™. It was his third home run in his last four games. Herrera is now 8-for-19 since a 15-for-97 stretch left him with a .283 average last Tuesday.
