ST. LOUIS -- Having already set one career milestone (300th career HR) earlier this season against the Brewers, superstar third baseman Nolan Arenado wasted no time in notching another against the Cardinals’ NL Central rivals on Wednesday night.

With his first-inning infield single that plated teammate Paul Goldschmidt -- giving the Cardinals a lead they'd never relinquish in a 3-0 victory -- Arenado recorded his 1,000th career RBI. He is the eighth active MLB player with 1,000 career RBIs, joining Goldschmidt on that list. 

Arenado hit the 300th home run of his career on April 28th in Milwaukee. He is one of 143 players in NL/AL history with at least 300 home runs and 1,000 RBIs. He is one of just six active players with that distinction, joining Miguel Cabrera, Nelson Cruz, Joey Votto, Evan Longoria and Goldschmidt.

Arenado also came into Wednesday’s game riding a five-game home run streak, making him one of nine players in Cards history to homer in that many consecutive games. He homered in each game of the Cardinals' three-game sweep in Boston over the weekend and then went deep off Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta and Wade Miley on Monday and Tuesday.

In his second at-bat on Wednesday at Busch Stadium, Arenado came within inches of homering in a sixth straight game before his shot down the left-field line tailed off just before the foul pole. His HR streak came to an end after his 1-for-4 night.

Three players in Cardinals history -- Mark McGwire [1998], Matt Carpenter [2018] and Goldschmidt [2019] -- have homered in six straight games.

Ken Griffey Jr. [1993], Don Mattingly [1987] and Dale Long [1956] are the only players in NL/AL history to homer in eight straight games. Six have homered in seven straight, most recently Mike Trout from Sept. 4-12, 2022.
