Hundley had notion to try for cycle on 4-hit day
Giants' backup catcher records 3 RBIs, 4 runs in series win over Padres
SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants catcher Nick Hundley had a pretty good week in one afternoon during Wednesday's 9-4 win over the Padres at AT&T Park.
The reserve catcher lined hits in each of his first four plate appearances and flirted with the cycle. Hundley singled home two runs in the first inning, lashed a third-inning leadoff double, homered in the fourth and doubled again in the sixth.
Hundley, who matched a career high with his four-hit total, jokingly said that he thought about accelerating toward third base to go for the cycle in the sixth.
"But then I almost got thrown out at second base," Hundley added.
Hundley's batting average soared from .268 to .326, and he finished the day 4-for-5. He's hitting .452 (14-for-31) with four doubles and three homers in his past 10 games, and he's batting .325 (13-for-40) when he starts behind the plate.
