NEW YORK -- The second opinion D-backs shortstop Nick Ahmed received on his ailing right hip Tuesday confirmed the initial diagnosis of an impingement.
Ahmed visited with Dr. Bryan Kelly, who works with the NHL's New York Rangers.
"They're talking about possibly a [cortisone] shot to relieve it," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "They're going to decide exactly what the course of action will be."
Ahmed, who has been on the disabled list since July 22, had been bothered by the hip even before that, but he had been able to play through it. After being put on the DL, he rested the hip and has only recently begun agility activity.
"I don't know what the timetable would be," Hale said on Ahmed's return. "Obviously now the baseball activities haven't really started -- there's been a little bit of hitting, a lot of ground balls. But he wasn't feeling 100 percent doing all that stuff. We need to get him to 100 percent."
Worth noting
• Outfielder A.J. Pollock (fractured right elbow) is scheduled to play for Class A Advanced Visalia on Tuesday night after appearing in two games in the Rookie-level Arizona League. Pollock has yet to play in the field, but that could happen as soon as Wednesday or Thursday.
• Right-hander Rubby De La Rosa (right elbow inflammation) threw four innings Sunday in the Arizona League and did not report any problems.
