INJURY UPDATES
OF Alex Call (partial tear of left plantar fascia)
Expected return: 2025
Call sustained a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot while running after a shallow popup on Aug. 23 in Atlanta. He was placed on the 10-day IL on Aug. 24.
“It’s the stop and go now that’s really bothering him,” manager Dave Martinez said. “I talked to him the other day, and I really don’t think he wants to risk coming back and playing. He just wants to continue doing what he’s doing and try to get as good as he can possibly feel, and then start rehabbing it during the offseason.” (Last updated: Sept. 25)
60-DAY INJURED LIST
RHP Cade Cavalli (Tommy John surgery; No. 8 on Nationals' Top 30 Prospects list)
Expected return: 2025
Cavalli threw a bullpen session of 25 pitches on Sept. 24 at Nationals Park. He is feeling healthy and is looking forward to going through a regular throwing program this offseason. Cavalli underwent Tommy John surgery on March 22, 2023. (Last updated: Sept. 25)
RHP Mason Thompson (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: 2025
Thompson underwent his second Tommy John surgery on March 1 after previously undergoing the procedure in high school. He said in early September he feels stronger and overall better than he did after his first surgery. Thompson was placed on the 60-day IL on March 24. (Last updated: Sept. 24)
RHP Joan Adon (right shoulder biceps strain)
Expected return: 2025
Adon was transferred to the 60-day IL on Sept. 20. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 28, retroactive to Aug. 25. Adon had a 6.75 ERA in eight games (including one start) with the Nationals in 2024. (Last updated: Sept. 20)
RHP Josiah Gray (right elbow/forearm flexor strain)
Expected return: 2025
Gray underwent Tommy John surgery and an internal brace procedure on July 24 to address a partially torn UCL. The procedure was performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington.
Gray was placed on the IL on April 9, retroactive to April 6, and he was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 5. (Last updated: Aug. 20)
