OAKLAND -- Chris Heisey's Minor League rehab assignment has been stopped after the Nationals outfielder had an apparent setback when he tested his ruptured right biceps. Heisey began his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg on Monday, less than a week after he suffered the injury, and he was placed on the disabled list on May 24.
"He might have rushed it some," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "I thought [that he was playing] was a miracle in the first place. We'll see. His arm was black and blue, which is to be expected. We'll just have to re-evaluate things."
Heisey said he had been dealing with biceps tendon problems throughout his career, but he initially started feeling pain after a pinch-hit appearance on May 23. He tried to test it in batting practice the next day, and that's when he believes he suffered this injury. Still, a subsequent MRI revealed the tear and that he was able to play as long as he could tolerate the pain.
This setback means the Nationals will almost certainly take a more cautious approach and slow his rehab.
