ARLINGTON -- Nathaniel Lowe knows firsthand what it’s like to grow up in a military family. It’s something he’s proud to talk about whenever the opportunity arises.

“My dad was a Navy pilot, he did 20 years in the Navy,” Lowe said. “While he was overseas, the rest of my family stepped in and did what he couldn't do because he was so far away. So that was the childhood that I had, and I'm really grateful for it, because they presented us a lot of great opportunities to grow as people, and then obviously my brother [Rays outfielder Josh Lowe] and I get a chance to perform as athletes now. So I'm very grateful for the opportunities that were presented to us.”

That being said, it’s no surprise that Lowe has continued his partnership with American Airlines and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation for the third straight year of the Faces of Freedom program.

Lowe, in partnership with the Rangers Foundation and American Airlines, will host over 70 San Diego-based Marines, sailors and their guests for a two-day VIP experience in the DFW area during the Rangers' series against the Pirates this week. The event, scheduled for Monday-Tuesday, includes Monday night’s Rangers-Pirates game and an exclusive tour of the George W. Bush Presidential Center.

The service members and their guests will be treated to the ultimate baseball experience, including a pre-game tour, on-field batting practice, a meet-and-greet with Rangers players and coaches and a suite to watch the game.

The two-day trip will also include a breakfast buffet at Texas Live! along with the private tour of the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas.

“It is great,” Lowe said. “Any way we can give back, it's really important to do so. And especially for a group like this that lays so much on the line for so many people that don't understand what it truly takes, giving them an opportunity to come out and enjoy a couple baseball games. It's all worth it.

“It just makes me so grateful because so many people lay down their lives, lay down their personal lives, go overseas and do things that nobody here will ever hear about, and on the home front, in other theaters, there are a lot of people doing great things that deserve thank you’s and many more.”

Lowe credited the work of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and executive director Karin Morris for their help in driving this process for him, and so many of his teammates and their various endeavors.

“The Rangers Foundation has been very instrumental in it, too,” Lowe said. “Karin and that group have been fantastic. So it's an easy, easy group to get involved with. They work hard, and it's cool to see it go directly to the people, instead of kind of just cutting a check and wondering where the money goes.

“It makes it a lot more worth it, because there's faces and heartbeats behind the work that these people put in. So to be able to meet them and hope that they enjoy a great show tonight is very fulfilling.”
