Odds for trio of MVP contenders chasing Triple Crown
There might be little suspense regarding the MVP race in both leagues during the final month of the 2024 MLB regular season.
According to the latest odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is a -5000 favorite in the American League. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has a -1600 value in the National League.
For context, the latest odds give Judge a 98.04% chance of winning the award and Ohtani a 94.12% implied probability.
But that’s not the only way to bet on either player during the home stretch of the regular season. BetMGM has released attractive markets for both players, including their odds of recording the Triple Crown.
For a player to accomplish the Triple Crown, they would have to lead their respective league in batting average, home runs and RBIs. Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers in 2012 was the last player to achieve this feat.
The only time a Triple Crown has been recorded in both leagues was 1933.
In this case, Judge has the best chance of making history. BetMGM’s two-way market has a +500 value on Judge to win the regular-season Triple Crown, giving him an implied probability of 16.67%. This means that a $10 bet would net a $50 profit.
At the same time, Judge has a -700 value (87.5% implied probability) not to record the Triple Crown.
Judge currently leads the AL in home runs (51) and RBIs (122), with his latest over/under for home runs set at 62.5. Judge’s .333 batting average trails Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., who is hitting .347.
In the NL, two players are chasing the Triple Crown. Ohtani paces the NL in home runs with 41, but Atlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna leads the way in RBIs (96) and batting average (.307). Ohtani is hitting .292 with 94 RBIs, while Ozuna has 37 homers.
BetMGM favors Ozuna’s chances of a Triple Crown, giving him +750 odds (11.76%) to win it and a -1200 value not to. Ohtani is +1000 on the yes option and -2000 for no.
