Ohtani heads into first playoffs with most popular player jersey

After becoming the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season, once again has the most popular player jersey in MLB.

Announced jointly today by MLB and MLB Players, Inc. (MLBPI), the 2024 season’s most popular player jerseys list features a combination of established stars and rising young talent. Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper, returned to the top five with the second-most popular player jersey in the league en route to the Phillies first NL East championship since 2011. Major League home run leader Aaron Judge secured the #3 spot for the second consecutive year after leading the Yankees to an AL East crown.

Three of Ohtani’s teammates from the NL West Champion Dodgers join him on the list in repeat appearances for each: Mookie Betts (No. 4), Freddie Freeman (No. 18) and Clayton Kershaw (No. 19).

New York Mets All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor (No. 5) jumped to the highest standing of his career on the most popular player jersey list and his teammate, first baseman Pete Alonso (No. 15), re-joined the top 20 for the first time since 2022. The top 20 players represent six different countries and territories: Canada, Dominican Republic, Japan, Puerto Rico, United States and Venezuela.
