Baseball world mourns Halladay's passing
Commissioner Manfred, former teammates, current players remember two-time Cy Young Award winner
When news broke that former MLB pitcher Roy Halladay had passed away in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, the baseball world was grief-stricken, with reactions pouring in on social media. Halladay is survived by his wife Brandy and their two sons.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, the franchises Halladay pitched for, former managers and teammates of the two-time Cy Young Award winner, as well as other former and current MLB players, plus those outside the game, have shared their thoughts:
Commissioner Rob Manfred
"All of us at Baseball are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic passing of former Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay. A well-respected figure throughout the game, Roy was a fierce competitor during his 16-year career, which included eight All-Star selections, two Cy Young Awards, a perfect game and a Postseason no-hitter.
"On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, including his wife, Brandy, and two sons, Ryan and Braden, his friends and countless fans, as well as the Blue Jays and Phillies organizations."

You have to make the best of it. And he did. He made us push to a level that sometimes you didn't think you could actually reach. He made everybody better." -- Halladay's rotation mate with Phillies (2010-13)

"He was the guy that you aspired to be. You watched the way his boys, when they were around, the way they looked at him. How his boys acted was a reflection of him. They could not have been nicer, and to see how they looked at their dad -- at that time in Toronto, my son wasn't born yet, but it was like, 'When my daughter grows up, I want her to look at me the same way.' The family part of Doc that I got to see, I just loved.
"And then you see this other side, the competitor and the dedication to his craft. I mean, there's such parallels between the professional Doc and the dad Doc. He seemed to want to be amazing at everything. I remember thinking, it's awesome seeing both sides of this person, and getting to be around him and wanting to figure out, 'How am I going to be later on in life? Can I be that good? Can I be that good of a dad?'" -- Halladay's teammate with Blue Jays (2005-09) and Phillies (2013)
