Finalists named for this year's Players Choice Awards
Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and Bobby Witt Jr. were the best players in baseball this season. Who says? The players themselves.
Those three are the finalists for Player of the Year in the 2024 Players Choice Awards. The winner will be announced during the FOX MLB pregame show prior to World Series Game 2 on Saturday.
Judge and Ohtani, the likely MVPs in their respective leagues, will face off in this year’s Fall Classic between the Yankees and Dodgers. It will mark the first time since 1956 that the American League and National League home run leaders have played against each other in the World Series.
Witt’s Royals were eliminated by the Yankees in the AL Divisional Series, but after recording his second 30-homer, 30-steal season and winning Kansas City’s first batting title in 34 years with a .332 average, Witt belongs in the conversation for this award.
Player of the Year is just one of the honors at the Players Choice Awards, which have recognized outstanding on- and off-field accomplishments by MLB players since 1992. Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins is a finalist for three awards: Comeback Player, Philanthropist of the Year and Marvin Miller Man of the Year. That last award goes to the player “whose leadership most inspires others to higher levels of achievement.”
