Sweet Mother's Day marathon on MLB Network
Mother's Day is special, and there have been some special moments at the ballpark that have taken place on that day. MLB Network is airing some of the best Mother's Day games in recent memory Sunday, featuring a "miracle" at Fenway Park, a walk-off victory in Milwaukee, a career game in Minnesota and a historic performance in Oakland. Here's the programming schedule.
11 a.m. ET -- Orioles at Red Sox on May 13, 2007
They call it the "Mother's Day Miracle." Baltimore's Jeremy Guthrie had blanked Boston's lineup on just three hits over eight innings. He went back out to the mound at Fenway Park in the ninth inning, looking to complete the shutout. Several minutes later, the Red Sox had turned a 5-0 deficit with three outs remaining into a 6-5 victory. Watch the classic contest in its entirety.
1 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. ET -- Mets at Brewers on May 14, 2006
The Crew got to Pedro Martinez for four runs and took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning, when the Mets tied the game on a David Wright single. The Brewers went ahead by a run but New York tied the game, 5-5, in the ninth. It remained that way heading into the bottom of the 10th, when Bill Hall launched a walk-off homer to give Milwaukee a dramatic Mother's Day victory.
3 p.m. ET -- Tigers at Twins on May 13, 2007
Mother's Day in 2007 was quite a day, indeed. In addition to the huge ninth-inning Red Sox comeback, the Twins' Torii Hunter had a huge game of his own, homering twice and driving in seven runs to lead Minnesota to a 16-4 victory over Detroit at the Metrodome.
5:30 p.m. ET -- Rays at A's on May 9, 2010
When left-hander Dallas Braden took the mound for the A's at the Oakland Coliseum against the Rays, he was making his 53rd career start with a career ERA of 4.62. The day was special, to be sure, since it was Mother's Day and Braden's grandmother, who had raised him, was in attendance. But in terms of baseball, it felt like just another Sunday afternoon series finale. Then Braden achieved one of the rarest feats in baseball history, one that would etch his name in the record books next to only 18 others at the time. Watch his improbable perfect game from pitch No. 1 through pitch No. 109.
