Sunday on MLB Network: Cycles, Players League recap

April 26th, 2020

You never know what you'll see on any given day when it comes to baseball. Is this the day you'll witness a three-homer game? A no-hitter? What about a player hitting for the cycle? On Sunday, MLB Network will be airing some of the best cycles in recent memory, as well as an MLB The Show Players League Recap Show as the virtual postseason races heat up. Here's a breakdown of Sunday's schedule.

11 a.m. ET: Cavan Biggio -- Sept. 17, 2019 vs. Orioles
Seventeen years after his Hall of Fame father, Craig, accomplished the feat, Biggio added to an already impressive start to his MLB career by hitting for the cycle against the Orioles in Baltimore. He launched a two-run homer to center field in the third inning, grounded a single to right field in the sixth, lined a double down the right-field line in the eighth and smashed a two-run triple in the ninth, driving in four of Toronto's runs in an 8-5 victory. It was the third cycle in franchise history, and first in 18 years.

1 p.m. ET: Mike Trout -- May 21, 2013 vs. Mariners
That Trout has a cycle isn't surprising -- it's that he only has one. He achieved the feat during a 12-0 victory at Angel Stadium, legging out an infield single in the third inning, tripling to right-center field in the fourth, doubling down the left-field line in the sixth, and homering to right-center in the eighth. Overall, Trout went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, and at 21 years and 287 days old, he became the youngest player in American League history to hit for the cycle. Of course, Trout is no stranger to making history.

3 p.m. ET: Christian Yelich -- Aug. 29, 2018 vs. Reds
Yelich hit for the cycle against the Reds on Aug. 29 in Cincinnati, but that was only the beginning -- he would accomplish the feat again within three weeks, and again against the Reds. But the first one is always particularly special, and for Yelich, it came as part of a 6-for-6 performance in the Brewers' 13-12, 10-inning victory. On his way to winning the National League MVP Award, Yelich singled in the first and third innings, hit a two-run homer in the fifth, doubled in the sixth, tripled to drive in a run in the seventh, and singled again in the ninth.

5 p.m. ET: Nolan Arenado -- June 18, 2017 vs. Giants
How do you complete a cycle in style? You hit a walk-off homer after your club was trailing. That's what Arenado did on Father's Day in 2017, tripling to right field in the first inning, singling to right in the fourth, doubling to center in the sixth, and launching a three-run homer off Giants closer Mark Melancon in the ninth to lift Colorado to a 7-5 win. It instantly became one of the most iconic moments in Rockies history.

7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET: MLB The Show Players League Recap Show
While baseball isn't being played on the field right now, that doesn't mean some of the game's best players aren't competing against one another. Check out the latest recap of the MLB The Show Players League to find out who's matching their on-field dominance virtually. With the playoffs just a week away, the postseason chase is on.

9 p.m. ET: Cody Bellinger -- July 15, 2017 vs. Marlins
In just his fourth month in the Majors, Bellinger completed his first career cycle in a 7-1 Dodgers victory at Marlins Park. The 2017 NL Rookie of the Year and future MVP began by singling to center field in the first inning. He proceeded to launch a two-run homer in the third inning before delivering an RBI double to right in the fourth and a triple to right in the seventh. You can't start a career much better than Bellinger has, and his 2017 cycle is just one manifestation of his tremendous all-around talent.
