Perfect your swing -- and bat flip -- with MLB Home Run Derby VR
Ever wondered what it would be like to crush dingers in the Home Run Derby? Now, you can imagine it like never before.
On Thursday, Major League Baseball released MLB Home Run Derby VR, an immersive virtual reality game, on the Meta Quest Store. Available for Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro models, the game uses advanced motion controls and realistic batting mechanics to allow users to swing for the fences in any of MLB’s 30 ballparks. MLB Home Run Derby VR can be purchased on the Meta Quest Store for $29.99, and the game is also available on Rift and Steam VR platforms.
The game’s key new features include a multiplayer mode for up to four players and a tournament mode that allows up to eight players to compete. Users can play up to 100 different levels thanks to a brand-new player progression system and can unlock customization rewards such as bat skins, batting gloves, custom ball trails and more. Among other new features, users can sort expanded leaderboards by score, longest home run or exit velocity. Further leaderboards and enhancements will become available throughout the 2024 season.
“To continue enhancing this unique game experience for our fans, our developers have evolved Home Run Derby VR numerous times since first introducing it in 2016,” said Jamie Leece, MLB senior vice president for Gaming & VR. “We strive to constantly bring these experiences to more fans and engage new users, so bringing Home Run Derby VR to the Meta Quest Store allows us to do both. We’ve also introduced new features in this launch that offer options, new clubhouse customizations and more, and we can’t wait to hear how our fans enjoy this brand-new version of Home Run Derby VR.”
