MLB announces plans to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Beginning Friday, in conjunction with the annual celebration of Roberto Clemente Day presented by Capital One, Major League Baseball and all 30 clubs will join in celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month with programming and in-park celebrations across the league.
Throughout the month, MLB Network and MLB’s digital platforms will host programming celebrating Latin American players’ contributions to the game of baseball, including highlights featuring iconic Latino baseball figures, a special fantasy draft showcasing active Latino players hosted by retired big leaguers and MLB Network analysts Yonder Alonso and Carlos Peña, and a sit-down Spanish-language interview between three-time MVP Albert Pujols and Ronald Acuña Jr.
MLB Network will also exclusively air Spanish-language broadcasts of the National League Division Series (Oct. 7-14) and NL Championship Series (Oct. 16-24).
Dedicated social media content for Hispanic Heritage Month will include the “El Béisbol Es…” campaign, in which players, celebrities and fans will be able to share what the game of baseball means to them. MLB, Las Mayores and the Miami Marlins will also host a conversation between Alonso and four Marlins representing different Latin American countries (Eury Pérez, Bryan De La Cruz, Jorge Soler and Luis Arraez).
In addition to league-wide celebrations, 25 teams have already announced plans for their own festivities.
