MLB bloodlines run deep with 2013 draftees
Plenty of family members of former players, coaches can go in Draft
Sometimes, the sport really is in the blood.
And sometimes, a player's DNA and lineage are actually important parts of his baseball makeup.
It's always been a family affair when it comes to the First-Year Player Draft, and this year is not any different.
The 2013 First-Year Player Draft wraps up Saturday, with Rounds 11-40 streamed live on MLB.com.
MLB.com's coverage includes Draft Central, the Top 100 Draft Prospects list and Draft Tracker, a live interactive application that includes a searchable database of Draft-eligible players. You can also keep up to date by following @MLBDraft on Twitter. And get into the Draft conversation by tagging your tweets with #mlbdraft.
Last June, players with famous names like Ripken, Yastrzemski, Mazzilli, Roenicke, Hershiser and Oquendo were called during the three-day event, officially introducing the baseball world to the sons, grandsons, nephews, brothers, and cousins of men with big league ties.
This week, there's a new generation of players with names like Biggio, Clemens, Farrell, Palmeiro, Sheffield and Weiss that are hoping to carry on the family legacy, and some have already heard their names called.
There are no stronger ties than baseball and family. Here's a look at some of Draft-eligible players with MLB bloodlines.
