Amateur stars to learn from CC, Greene and more at 7th annual DREAM Series
Development camp will feature nearly 80 top Black and Latino high school players from across the US
Major League Baseball and USA Baseball are set to host the seventh annual DREAM Series at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., over a four-day period starting Friday and running through Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The event, an amateur baseball development camp established with the aim of diversifying the talent pool of minority pitchers and catchers, will feature nearly 80 top Black and Latino high school players from across the nation.
Athletes will receive instruction from former Major and Minor League players, managers and coaches, with Reds flamethrower Hunter Greene (a DREAM Series alumnus), Nationals right-hander Josiah Gray and former All-Star pitcher CC Sabathia expected to make appearances.
Tennessee commit Arnold Abernathy (No. 82 on MLB Pipeline’s list of the top 2024 Draft prospects), Virginia commit Aiden Harris (No. 86) and Oklahoma State commit Sir Jamison Jones are among the amateur prospects slated to attend.
MLB Network will have live coverage of the event for the second consecutive year, with Harold Reynolds and Chris Young hosting a special on-location edition of “Hot Stove" starting at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, featuring interviews with participants and instructors as well as current and former Major Leaguers.
In addition to Greene, Twins pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson, Braves outfielder and 2022 National League Rookie of the Year Michael Harris II, Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker and Rays pitcher Taj Bradley are among the DREAM Series alumni who have reached the Majors since the event was established in 2017. The 2023 MLB Draft also featured a number of selectees who attended last year’s DREAM Series, including first-round picks Chase Davis (No. 21 overall to the Cardinals), Dillon Head (No. 25 overall to the Padres) and Kendall George (No. 36 overall to the Dodgers), second-round pick Nazzan Zanetello (No. 50 overall to the Red Sox), Antonio Anderson (third-round pick of the Red Sox) and Cameron Johnson (20th-round pick of the Cardinals).
