MLB & New Era Unveil 2014 All-Star Game Cap Collection
For First Time Ever, Players will Wear Special Cap for Midsummer Classic
Major League Baseball and New Era, the official on-field cap of MLB, today unveiled a unique cap collection for the 2014 MLB All-Star Game. For the first time ever, players named to the American and National League All-Star teams will take the field in a team-designated cap specially made for the MLB All-Star Game. Inspired by the 1970s era batting helmet of this year's host club, the Minnesota Twins, MLB and New Era jointly designed this collection to be worn on-field.
Since 2000, players have worn a special edition of the on-field cap, featuring a commemorative side patch of that year's All-Star Game logo. This year's caps will again have a custom All-Star side patch, as well as gold stars that will flank the silhouetted batter logo on the back, a design that first appeared during the 2011 All-Star Game in Arizona.
"Returning to Minnesota for the first time in almost 30 years, we wanted to honor the Twins history with new ideas and their distinctive batting helmet design from the 1970s made perfect sense," said Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President, Business, Major League Baseball.
"We wanted to highlight the game's illustrious past with a retro design concept, but with the modern twist of utilizing performance fabric," said Christopher H. Koch, CEO of New Era. "We're excited to bring the best cap, to the best players, on baseball's biggest stage."
While the new collection emulates styles of the past, it's infused with modern technology built with performance in mind. The caps are constructed using Diamond Era®, the brand's ultra-lightweight performance fabric. The tech attributes include, SOLARERA, 50+ UV protection that helps deflect the sun's rays and COOLERA technology that wicks away sweat to keep players comfortable and dry.
Beginning July 3, the full All-Star cap collection will be available for fans exclusively at LIDS, New Era retail locations, NewEraCap.com and MLB.com/shop. From July 7, the caps will also be available at sporting goods stores and headwear retailers around the country. The caps will also be available in international markets including Brazil, Canada, Japan, Korea and Mexico.
