Sometimes, the ball comes off the bat and you know you got it all. Other times, you think you got it all but ... you didn't. Delvin Pérez took the latter to the extreme Thursday.

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds third baseman hit a towering fly ball to left field during the sixth inning and immediately put his head down, flipped the bat and headed into a home run trot.

Only, the ball fell short of the left-field wall and was caught at the warning track. But apparently, Pérez didn't look up to find out.

Five steps before he got to home plate -- after he had pointed out to left field in celebration on his way to third -- he realized: It was just out number one and a flyout in the scorebook.

After laughing off his miscue, Pérez delivered a two-run single in the eighth, capping Memphis' 6-1 victory.
