Minor fire at Citi Field causes damage to offices

An early-morning fire at Citi Field on Monday damaged part of the Mets' administrative offices, though the damage was minor and not in any areas noticeable to fans.

The blaze started in the early-morning hours on the fourth floor of the stadium's office complex, where it was contained by sprinkler systems and later extinguished by firefighters.

"There was a fire earlier this morning in an office in the administration building at Citi Field," the Mets said in a team statement. "Sprinkler systems contained the fire before FDNY extinguished it. Damage was limited to this area of the administration building. There was no damage to any areas accessed by fans at Citi Field. The cause of the fire is being investigated and we will have no further comment."

The Mets are currently out of town, preparing to start a four-game series Monday night in Colorado against the Rockies.
