NEW YORK -- Michael Trout belted his 16th home run of the season in the fifth inning of the Angels' 2-1 loss to the Yankees on Friday night at Yankee Stadium, tying the Red Sox's J.D. Martinez for the second-most in the Majors. After walking in his first two plate appearances, Trout launched a 98.5 mph fastball from Yankees ace Luis Severino to the opposite field to tie the game, 1-1. The ball rocketed off his bat at 103.2 mph and traveled an estimated 375 feet to the second-deck stands in right field, according to Statcast™. "It was a bad pitch," Severino said. "I was trying to go down, and I left it in the middle. He's a good hitter, and he hit a good fastball there." Only Mookie Betts, who collected his 17th home run of the year against the Braves on Friday, has more homers than Trout and Martinez.

Trout's home run allowed Andrew Heaney to escape with a no-decision. The left-hander allowed only one run over 6 1/3 innings, on an RBI single by rookie Gleyber Torres in the second inning. Torres' home run in the seventh off of Jim Johnson ended up being the difference in the game. Trout came up one more time after he homered, grounding out to Torres at second to lead off the eighth inning against Player Page for David Robertson. Trout is batting .324 with 10 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 21 RBIs in 136 career at-bats against the Yankees.
