June 30: Marlins 11, Phillies 6 -- Panik says 'hello' with homer
Joe Panik became the seventh player in Marlins history to homer in his first at-bat with the club. Neil Walker was the last to do so on March 29, 2019.
June 29: Phillies 4, Marlins 3 -- Bender's run ends
Anthony Bender's streak of not allowing an earned run ended at 21 2/3 innings, when Odúbel Herrera knocked a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh. Bender's streak ends as the fifth longest to begin a career in MLB history.
June 27: Nationals 5, Marlins 1 -- Jazz goes for three, twice
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has hit a leadoff triple in consecutive games. He is the first player to do so since the Rockies' Charlie Blackmon on April 22-23, 2017, against the Giants.
June 26: Marlins 3, Nationals 2 -- Thompson's dominant start Rookie Zach Thompson struck out a career-high 11 batters in a career-high six innings. That was the most strikeouts by a Marlins pitcher since May 7, 2019, when Caleb Smith struck out 11 at Wrigley Field. Thompson’s 11 K's are the most by a Marlins pitcher at loanDepot park since Sept. 20, 2016, when José Fernández struck out 12 against the Nationals.
June 25: Marlins 11, Nationals 2 -- Bender keeps it going
After pitching a scoreless seventh, Anthony Bender has thrown 20 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run to begin his career. That is the sixth-longest streak in Major League history. He has permitted four inherited runners to score.
June 24: Nationals 7, Marlins 3 -- Jazz puts the ball in the air
Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered for the first time in 11 games on Thursday. From June 12 through Wednesday, he had a ground ball percentage of 74.1 -- highest among Marlins regulars. During that span, he was batting .125 with one extra-base hit.
June 23: Blue Jays 3, Marlins 1 -- Rogers' 100th strikeout
When left-hander Trevor Rogers struck out Teoscar Hernández for his 100th strikeout of 2021 in the fifth inning, he became the fifth Marlins pitcher to do so in his first 15 games of a season, and the first rookie.
June 22: Blue Jays 2, Marlins 1 -- Another eight for Alcantara
Sandy Alcantara joined Livan Hernandez (Aug. 15 and Aug. 21, 1998) and Dontrelle Willis (May 16 and May 21, 2006) as the only pitchers in Marlins history to make back-to-back starts of at least eight innings and not get the win in either of them.
June 20: Cubs 2, Marlins 0 -- First Fenway, then Wrigley
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, right-hander Zach Thompson became the fourth player in baseball history to make his first two career road starts at Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. He is the only one do so in the same season and for the same team.
June 19: Marlins 11, Cubs 1 -- Aguilar, Duvall piling up the RBIs
Jesús Aguilar and Adam Duvall are the first Marlins teammates to reach 50 RBIs each in 67 games or fewer since Alex Gonzalez and Mike Lowell in 2003.
June 18: Marlins 10, Cubs 2 -- Mightier offense with Duvy raking
The Marlins improved to 10-2 when Adam Duvall homers. They average 7.3 runs per game in those contests.
June 16: Cardinals 1, Marlins 0 -- Sandy's complete-game loss
In the Marlins' series finale against the Cardinals, Sandy Alcantara impressed on the mound and tossed eight scoreless innings before allowing a walk-off RBI single from Yadier Molina in the bottom of the ninth. Alcantara finished allowing six hits, one unearned run and one walk while striking out seven. Alcantara’s complete-game loss was the first for the Marlins since Ricky Nolasco in 2012, when he pitched eight innings in a 5-3 loss against the Rockies. Alcantara is the second pitcher this season to throw a complete game in a loss -- the first was the Cardinals' Adam Wainwright on April 26, in a 2-1 loss against the Phillies.
June 15: Cardinals 2, Marlins 1 -- Rogers keeps rolling
Trevor Rogers has given up three or fewer runs in 15 straight starts dating back to last season, the longest streak by a Marlin since the late José Fernández (20 in 2013-14).
June 14: Cardinals 4, Marlins 2 -- Don't run on Marte
Starling Marte is only the second Marlins player to have an outfield assist in three straight games, joining Matias Carrillo (June 8-11, 1994), according to Elias Sports Bureau.
June 13: Braves 6, Marlins 4 -- #PitchersWhoRace
Reliever John Curtiss had a sprint speed of 29.0 ft/sec on his inning-ending groundout in the fourth. That was the 38th-fastest sprint speed by a pitcher this year. Thirty-one of the top 37 are by the Angels' Shohei Ohtani.
June 12: Marlins 4, Braves 2 -- Duvall keeps driving in runs
Adam Duvall has been a great free-agent pickup for the Marlins this season. He hit his 12th home run of the season and now has 41 RBIs, which is tied for fourth most in the National League.
June 11: Marlins 4, Braves 3 -- Díaz's good eye
Isan Díaz walked twice. Entering Friday, Díaz was fifth in MLB with 11 walks since May 26, trailing Juan Soto (16), Carlos Correa (14), Yandy Díaz (14) and Shohei Ohtani (13).
June 10: Marlins 11, Rockies 4 -- Miami mashes trio of homers
Adam Duvall, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Starling Marte homered in the second inning of the rubber match, marking the first time the Marlins went deep three times in the same frame since the third inning on April 13, 2019, against Phillies right-hander Zach Eflin at then-Marlins Park.
June 9: Rockies 4, Marlins 3 -- Bender maintains 0.00 ERA
With a scoreless seventh, right-hander Anthony Bender became the first Marlins pitcher to not allow an earned run in his first 15 career games. The 26-year-old rookie is the first MLB pitcher to do so since the Orioles’ Donnie Hart (first 18) in 2016, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
June 8: Marlins 6, Rockies 2 -- López gives 'pen a rest
Pablo López pitched a career-high eight innings. It marked the second time in three games the Marlins have gotten that many frames out of their starting pitcher. López had previously gone seven innings eight times in his career, including three times this season.
June 7: Red Sox 5, Marlins 3 -- Rare Fenway debut
Zach Thompson was only the second Marlins pitcher -- and first starter -- to debut at Fenway Park, joining Nate Bump, who did so on June 28, 2003. Bump allowed two runs off three hits over 2 1/3 innings of relief and earned the win after the then-Florida Marlins scored eight runs in the final two innings to rally for a 10-9 victory.
June 6: Marlins 3, Pirates 1 -- Aguilar homers on the road again
Jesús Aguilar hit his 12th homer in Sunday's series finale. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last player to hit their first 12-plus homers of a season on the road was José Abreu (first 13) in 2017; the last Marlins player was Justin Ruggiano (first 13) in '13.
June 5: Pirates 8, Marlins 7 (12) -- Chisholm skies one
Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s go-ahead two-run shot in the fourth inning had a couple of eye-catching metrics. The 44-degree launch angle was the second highest by a Marlin on a homer tracked by Statcast (since 2015). Furthermore, the pitch height of 3.63 feet was the third highest taken deep by a Marlin in 2021. Chisholm has three of the top four spots on that leaderboard.
June 4: Pirates 9, Marlins 2 -- Devers in leadoff spot
No. 8 prospect José Devers hit leadoff, becoming the third-youngest Marlin (21 years, 179 days) to do so for the first time in his career, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Only Luis Castillo (20 years, 331 days) and Cameron Maybin (21 years, 167 days) were younger. Devers doubled in his first two at-bats.
June 3: Pirates 5, Marlins 3 -- Trouble closing
The Marlins have blown 14 save opportunities, which is the second-most in the Majors. Only the Dodgers have been unable to secure more save chances (15).
June 2: Blue Jays 6, Marlins 5 -- Aguilar the road warrior
Jesús Aguilar knocked in his 10th homer of the season during a three-run third inning. He is the first Marlins player to hit his first 10 homers on the road since Justin Ruggiano (first 13) in 2013, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
June 1: Blue Jays 5, Marlins 1 -- Marte scores Marté
In the top of the fifth, Starling Marte hit a double to score Luis Marté for the Marlins' lone run. The hit extended Marte's hitting streak to 11 games, his 12th double-digit hitting streak of his career. It's also the fourth time in franchise history that a Marlins hitter plated a player with the same surname, with the last time coming from Jhonatan and Donovan Solano in 2015.
