NEW YORK -- Play-by-play broadcaster Gary Cohen, a staple of SNY's Mets broadcasts for the past 11 seasons, will remain in the booth for the foreseeable future. Cohen has signed a multiyear contract to remain with SNY, according to a source, keeping the network's broadcast team of Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling intact. The club has not confirmed the deal.
That trio has been together since SNY's inception in 2006. Steve Gelbs joined the team in 2015, replacing longtime sideline reporter Kevin Burkhardt.
Cohen, 58, has covered the Mets on television or radio since 1989. Earlier this month, he was named a finalist for the 2017 Ford C. Frick Award, which the National Baseball Hall of Fame grants annually for excellence in broadcasting. The Hall will announce this year's winner at Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings in December.
In addition to his work with the Mets, Cohen is the play-by-play voice for Seton Hall men's basketball and a fixture of Westwood One's March Madness coverage. He is a Queens native and Columbia University alumnus.

Cohen's new contract comes one year after Hernandez signed an extension, keeping the core of SNY's broadcast team intact. Cohen, Hernandez and Darling often rank highly on lists of the game's best broadcast booths, combining to win multiple New York Emmys.
