NEW YORK -- By most any measure, the Mets have endured a frustrating year on the farm. Major injuries to several of their most premium prospects, including Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert and Ronny Mauricio, have robbed those players of crucial development time. Others, including Luisangel Acuña, have not produced as the organization might have hoped.

But plenty of bright spots have surfaced along the way -- most notably starting pitcher Brandon Sproat, who began the year at High-A Brooklyn and has since ridden his 101 mph fastball to the cusp of the Majors. Sproat has leapfrogged Williams as the Mets’ top overall prospect in MLB Pipeline’s midseason re-rank, which the Pipeline staff released this week.

There was a notable shakeup in the Mets’ Top 10, in fact, with 2024 first-round MLB Draft pick Carson Benge crashing the party and breakout prospect Jonah Tong making the cut as well.

Biggest jump/fall

Here are the players whose ranks changed the most from the preseason list:

Jump: Jonah Tong, RHP (Preseason: NR | Midseason: 10)
One of baseball’s most notable early-season prospect breakouts, Tong ripped through Single-A St. Lucie without allowing an earned run in four outings, which earned him a quick promotion to Brooklyn. Tong hasn’t slowed much at the more advanced level, relying on a fastball that reaches 97 mph and includes some of the most significant induced vertical break -- the characteristic that makes a fastball appear to “rise” to a hitter -- in the Minor Leagues. He also features two distinct breaking balls and a developing changeup, which may be the keys for Tong to evolve from a lower-Minors breakout story into a legitimate rotation arm at the highest level.

Fall: Colin Houck, SS (Preseason: 7 | Midseason: 21)
It’s been a difficult start to the professional career of Houck, the Mets’ first-round Draft pick in 2023 who made his full-season debut this year with St. Lucie. Houck began pro ball with 229 homerless plate appearances before finally going deep, and he took a sub-.200 batting average into late June. Although Houck has improved a bit since then, he’ll need to do much more if he wants to make good on his first-round pedigree. Still just 19 years old, Houck has plenty of time to make that happen.
