LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Mets have been notably quiet as baseball's Hot Stove has begun to simmer. Shohei Ohtani has picked his team. Giancarlo Stanton is heading to the Yankees, flipping the offseason on its side. But the Mets have done nothing of note since hiring manager Mickey Callaway in October.
That is likely to change this week at Disney World, where most of the Mets' front office arrived on Sunday for the Winter Meetings. The team is in hot pursuit of a setup man for its bullpen, as well as a second baseman and a first base/outfield hybrid. And while the Mets have spent weeks pursuing those types of players over phone calls, texts and emails, action tends to increase when 30 general managers and dozens of agents all occupy the same real estate.
In addition, the Mets are working to fill out their training staff, a process that could come to an end as soon as this week.
"I think you have to come down with an understanding of where the market appears to be and what your priorities are," Mets GM Sandy Alderson said. "But I do think you have to be very flexible, and remain fluid, and try to take a look at opportunities that arise."

Alderson will meet the media every day from Sunday through Thursday, while Callaway will hold his own news conference Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Meetings will conclude Thursday at 9 a.m. with the Rule 5 Draft.
At the outset of November, this promised to be a busy offseason for the Mets, given their needs at multiple positions. Their slow start hasn't changed that; it simply means that the Winter Meetings have a chance to be as action-packed as ever for the Mets.
"We start the Meetings with an open mind," Alderson said. "We have a framework of what we want to do, but we're open to a variety of possibilities."
