Wright welcomes first child, Olivia Shea
Mets say third baseman, wife Molly and new daughter 'are doing great'
NEW YORK -- David Wright and his wife, Molly, welcomed their first child into the world on Saturday. Fittingly, her middle name is Shea.
Olivia Shea Wright weighed in at 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and the Mets said in a statement that "Mom, Dad and Olivia are doing great."
Few in baseball history enjoyed the type of success that Wright did from 2004-08 at Shea Stadium, where he compiled more home runs, RBIs and runs scored than at any other park -- despite since playing more games and making more plate appearances at Citi Field.
It's a popular name in baseball circles. Chipper Jones famously named his second son Shea in homage to the former Braves star's success in Flushing, and Hall of Famer Barry Larkin gave his daughter the middle name D'Shea for the same reason.
Wright, 33, is likely out for the season after undergoing neck surgery in June. He married his longtime girlfriend, Molly Beers, in December 2013.
