NEW YORK -- The Mets are remodeling their front office under David Stearns.

Assistant general manager Ian Levin will leave the organization at the end of the season, Levin told staffers in an email on Wednesday, marking the team’s second significant recent front-office departure. Director of Major League operations Elizabeth Benn will also leave after the season.

The Mets have one remaining assistant GM in Ben Zauzmer, as well as Eduardo Brizuela, a vice president and special assistant to Stearns who has been highly visible in that role. Other incumbent baseball operations staffers include Tommy Tanous, Jonathan Strangio and Nick Spar, all of whom were hired under previous regimes.

Levin was one of the organization’s longest-tenured employees, coming to the team as a media relations intern in 2005. He became an assistant GM in 2021 at the same time as Bryn Alderson, who departed the front office two years later. Serving in various roles over 20 seasons, Levin worked under seven different full-time general managers.

Stearns has spoken in the past about wanting to hire a GM to serve as second-in-command underneath him, which could be Brizuela or an outside candidate. But when asked about that search earlier this week, Stearns indicated that it is not a front-burner issue.

“I don’t really have any thinking at this point,” he said. “Going to tackle that one in the offseason. … I think I’ve had enough to keep me busy on a daily basis where I haven’t given it significant thought at this point.”
