Marlins prospect Max Meyer struggled in his second professional start for Double-A Pensacola on Tuesday, while Triple-A outfielder Jesús Sánchez exited the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp's game for precautionary reasons, a source told MLB.com.

Meyer, MLB Pipeline's No. 23 overall prospect, allowed five runs on eight hits over four innings in Pensacola's home opener. The right-hander struck out two and walked two. During a four-run third, five of six Birmingham batters reached. It was a bit of a stumble for Meyer, who threw five scoreless innings of one-hit ball in his pro debut last Tuesday.

"He didn't have his 'A' stuff today," Double-A manager Kevin Randel said. "He battled out there and competed well. These guys want to run, he did a good job controlling the run game, but his weapon [the slider] was just unable to get going. They did a great job game planning against him. I think their approach was, 'See spin, let it go,' and they were just on the fastball."

Sánchez, who knocked his fourth homer in the first inning, walked and later scored on Monte Harrison's triple in the third. But he did not go back out to right field for the bottom of the fifth. There were no specifics on Sánchez's departure. Miami's No. 6 prospect entered Tuesday slashing .556/.571/1.074 in six games. The outfielder dealt with a right groin strain that limited him to just eight at-bats during Spring Training.

• First baseman Lewin Díaz (No. 5) went 1-for-3 with one run and one walk.

• Harrison (No. 14) tallied a two-run triple.

• JJ Bleday (MLB Pipeline's No. 16 overall) recorded his second assist of the season with a throw from center field to first base to complete an inning-ending double play.

High-A Beloit
• Right-hander Zach McCambley (No. 23) pitched seven perfect innings in his second professional start.

• Catcher Will Banfield (No. 28) finished 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs.

• Outfielder Connor Scott (No. 16) went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Low-A Jupiter
• Right-hander Eury Pérez (No 25) permitted just one hit over five shutout innings. He walked two and fanned five.

Switching up the rotation
Marlins left-hander Trevor Rogers will be given an extra day of rest, starting Thursday's series finale instead of Wednesday's matchup in Arizona. Wednesday will be a bullpen game, according to Mattingly.

Throughout the season, the Marlins intend on monitoring the workload of their young starting pitchers. Last week, righty Pablo López was given an extra day. Rogers, the reigning National League Rookie of the Month, has thrown 38 innings through seven starts. His career high for a single season is 136 1/3 frames.
