The Cubs and free-agent left hander Matthew Boyd reached an agreement on a two-year deal on Monday, according to a report from MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The deal is reportedly worth $29 million for two years, with $14.5 million a year, plus $1 million in performance bonuses ($500,000 each year). The Cubs have not confirmed the report.

Boyd signed with the Guardians in June of 2024 after recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in '23, which sidelined him when he was with the Tigers. He went 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA over 39 2/3 innings in eight starts for Cleveland in ‘24. Boyd made three postseason starts for the Guardians during the club’s run to the 2024 American League Championship Series.

Boyd, who will turn 34 in February, was a sixth-round pick by the Blue Jays in the 2013 MLB Draft and made his big league debut in 2015 for Toronto. He was acquired by the Tigers before the '15 Trade Deadline, and pitched eight seasons with Detroit, before spending '22 with the Mariners and '23 back with the Tigers. Over 10 seasons in the Majors, Boyd has compiled a 46-69 record with a 4.85 ERA in 182 appearances (168 starts).
