ST. PETERSBURG -- Matt Duffy had to leave Monday's 8-4 victory against the Rangers shortly after reaching third base in the first inning with right hamstring tightness. He expects to have an MRI Tuesday morning.
After hitting a single to lead off the Rays' first, Duffy stole second and jammed his leg awkwardly into the bag on his slide. He was not able to score on C.J. Cron's single to right. That's when Rays manager Kevin Cash and one of team's trainers paid Duffy a visit.
"Stealing second, kind of felt a slight grab," Duffy said. "I was able to kind of catch it as it happened, a little bit. But it was kind of at the point where continuing to go might have been asking for it. Better just be smart, shut it down, see how it feels tomorrow and go from there."
Duffy was led back to the dugout and Joey Wendle entered the game to pinch-run for Duffy. Wendle scored on Wilson Ramos' single, then took over at second base in the next inning. Daniel Robertson, who started at second, moved to third.
