Duffy, Gomez day to day with injuries
KANSAS CITY -- Both Matt Duffy and Carlos Gomez left Tuesday night's 6-5 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium with minor injuries.
Duffy exited with right hamstring tightness and Gomez with right groin tightness. Both are day to day.
Duffy lined out in the fifth, and when the Rays took the field in the bottom half of the inning, Daniel Robertson entered the game in his place. Duffy doubled in three trips to the plate, upping his average to .322 on the season.
"It never really got me. After scoring from second in the first inning, it felt a little tight," said Duffy, who went on the disabled list with a right hamstring problem earlier in the season. "Never really felt it grab like last time. ... There was no grab or anything. Just general tightening over the next three innings."
Gomez, who went 0-for-1 with a walk, laid down a sacrifice bunt in the sixth but didn't return for the bottom half of the inning. Johnny Field replaced him in right field.
"Happened on the pitch before [the bunt]," Gomez said. "It felt like it kind of grabbed me and got tight. So when I bunted and tried to run, I felt if I continued to run I was going to hurt myself."
Gomez said an athletic trainer checked him out and everything looked "good and strong."
"We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I've never had a groin problem before; it's something new for me," Gomez said.
